Sports Massage at Home
Sports massage is not just for professional athletes. Anyone who trains regularly (runners, gym-goers, cyclists, swimmers, weekend cricketers) builds up muscle fatigue and micro-tension that ordinary rest does not fully clear.
Your therapist assesses which muscle groups took the most load during your training before touching anything. A runner's session focuses on hamstrings, calves and IT band. A weightlifter's session targets the upper back, shoulders and hip flexors. The work is specific, functional and goal-driven, not a general relaxation massage with a different name.
Benefits of Sports massage at home
- Clears lactic acid buildup that causes post-workout soreness and stiffness
- Speeds up muscle recovery between training sessions
- Reduces DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) after heavy training
- Improves flexibility and range of motion in overworked joints
- Breaks up scar tissue from old sports injuries
- Reduces injury risk by releasing tight muscles before they strain
- Improves blood flow to fatigued muscle groups
Who is Sports massage best for
Sports massage works best for runners dealing with tight hamstrings or IT band issues, gym-goers with shoulder or lower back tightness from lifting, cyclists with hip flexor and quad tightness, swimmers with shoulder tension, and anyone whose muscles take 3 or more days to recover after a training session. It is also useful before a big event to prime the muscles and reduce pre-competition tightness.
What happens during a Sports Massage session
Your therapist begins with a brief assessment: which sport or activity, how recently you trained, and where you are feeling the most tightness or restriction. This shapes the entire session. A post-marathon session looks completely different from a pre-event session or a general recovery booking.
Post-training sessions focus on flushing out the worked muscles: increasing blood flow, clearing lactic acid and reducing inflammation. Pre-event sessions use faster, stimulating techniques to prime the muscles without fatiguing them. Recovery sessions between training blocks focus on restoring full range of motion and breaking up any developing adhesions before they become injuries.
Techniques used
- Effleurage
fast flushing strokes to clear lactic acid from fatigued muscles
- Petrissage
deep kneading to break up muscle adhesions and knots
- Compression
sustained pressure on specific muscle bellies to release tension
- Stretching
assisted passive stretching to restore range of motion

Book on WhatsAppCommon questions about Sports massage
Should I book Sports massage before or after training?
Both work but for different reasons. Pre-event sessions use faster stimulating techniques to prime the muscles without tiring them. Best booked 24 to 48 hours before a race or event. Post-training sessions focus on recovery and are best booked 24 hours after your hardest session of the week.
How is Sports massage different from Deep Tissue?
Deep Tissue focuses on releasing chronic knots and long-held tension. Sports massage is goal-driven and structured around your training. It uses a mix of techniques including stretching and compression that Deep Tissue does not. If you train regularly, Sports massage is the more functional choice.
Will it hurt?
Sports massage works on fatigued and tight muscle tissue so it can feel intense in places. It should never feel sharp or unbearable. Tell your therapist if the pressure is too much and they will adjust. Some soreness for 24 hours after is normal.
How often should I book Sports massage?
For regular training, once every 2 to 3 weeks works well for most people. During a heavy training block or race preparation, weekly sessions give the best results.
Can Sports massage help with an existing injury?
Sports massage can help with muscle-related injuries like strains, tightness and overuse injuries. It is not suitable for acute injuries, fractures or anything that has not been assessed by a doctor. If you are unsure, check with your doctor before booking.
Can I book Sports massage same day?
Yes. Same-day bookings are available across all 18 cities from 8AM to 11PM. We recommend booking at least 2 hours in advance for evening slots.
